Building Official

How do components play a role in your work as a building official?

Large building with exposed wall insulation and roof trusses with a crane next to itStructural building components are used in residential homes and commercial properties across the country and Building Officials are responsible for making sure a building or home is installed correctly and meets code requirements. Structural components make it easier for a building official to see what they are looking for, and assess whether they are properly built and installed creating a straight-forward process. They also take responsibility and risk off of building officials as component manufacturers take on an element of the building process that takes on responsibility for the design and manufacturing of a building.

Building officials prefer components because...

  • Manufacturing of components in a controlled setting, ensuring they are made in a stable environment with quality control requirements
  • Component Manufacturers understand the building code, so building officials have a local professional they can rely on, and work with, when tackling difficult code-related issues
  • Component manufacturers are always looking to meet with building officials and provide them a tour of their manufacturing facility
